The markets started the day on a firm note with the BSE Sensex up 199 points at 20,094 and the NSE Nifty up 98 points at 5,975, after RBI reduced MSF by 50 bps to 9 per cent from 9.5 per cent at mid-night, on Monday.
The BSE benchmark index extended its gains and touched the day’s high of 20,150 in the mid-morning deals.
However, the index trimmed most of its early gains on the back of selling pressure in Metal and IT shares. Thereafter, the BSE benchmark index exibited sideways for the remaining trading day.
The index touched the day’s low of 19,936, down 166 points from the day’s high in the late noon trades.
Finally, the BSE benchmark index ended up 88 points at 19,983.
The NSE Nifty gained 22 points at 5,928.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee is down marginally at 61.86 against the US dollar, down 06 paise at 1550 hours.
